Add certified carbon outcomes to your service offering — differentiate bids and deepen client value.

Ontoly is a capital solutions partner for the firms who plan, design and implement building retrofits. We don't do your work. We improve the ROI on it, so that more of it gets built.
Since we started in May 2024, Ontoly has built close relationships across the built environment and building decarbonization sectors — including the members we brought onto our scientific advisory and the organizations we have partnered with. That was not incidental. The work your firm does, from the audit and the modelling through to M&V planning, design and commissioning, is the foundation the entire crediting mechanism sits on. Without a credible independent performance forecast and sound measurement, there is no credit to certify.
Ontoly does not complete that work, and does not want to. We are a registry and certification body, and we work in partnership with the engineering firms who have the expertise to implement these projects. The separation is deliberate — it is what keeps the quantification honest.
Projects get stuck at feasibility. Not at design, not at procurement — at the point where a client looks at a payback period and decides to wait. You did the analysis correctly and the answer was still no.
That is the specific problem we are trying to solve. Carbon revenue is a second stream of capital that sits on top of operational savings and can cover a meaningful share of capital cost. For a project sitting just outside a client's hurdle rate, that is often the whole difference.
We have designed our system around two goals we believe are yours as well: help you win more clients, and make the projects you propose more affordable to build.
There are other configurations and we are flexible about them — some firms introduce us and step back, others manage the whole crediting relationship as an add-on service. What we are not flexible about is clear legal title. Every pathway starts there, because a credit with a contested owner is worth nothing to anyone.
The PAR is a document you can hand to a client. We take your independent performance forecast as a fixed input to our quantification model — we do not adjust your engineering — and produce a projected annual credit volume, a crediting period, and a financial additionality assessment with an NPV-based investment analysis rating.
That last part is the piece consulting teams tend to find most useful. It quantifies, at the individual building level, how far short of viable a project is without carbon revenue and how much of that gap the revenue closes. It turns "this would help" into a defensible number inside a feasibility study.
Three things, and none of them should be unfamiliar. A defensible baseline: up to 36 months of utility data drawn from the three years immediately preceding the retrofit. A performance forecast aligned to industry standard practice, which we use as given. And a monitoring arrangement that will still be producing clean monthly data three, five and ten years from now — because issuance runs on measured post-retrofit consumption, and gaps in that data cost your client credits.
That last point is worth raising with clients during design rather than after handover. Meter placement, sub-metering decisions and who is responsible for pulling the bills each year are engineering decisions with direct revenue consequences under this system.
Once the retrofit is complete and a monitoring year of real utility data has been verified, credits are issued to the building representative's account. Your client can sell all of them, a portion of them, or specific vintage years within the ten-year crediting period — either as a pre-purchase reservation before verification, or as a spot sale of issued credits. Ontoly's certification fee is charged to the buyer, not to your client.
