Ontoly Enters Full Assessment with the Integrity Council

October 29, 2026

Ontoly is now in full assessment with the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). We are the first carbon registry built forbuildings to reach this stage.

The Integrity Council sets the Core Carbon Principles (CCPs) and is one of the leading organizations setting a global threshold for high-quality carbon credits. Programs that meet the CCPs can be approved as CCP-Eligible.

Our application has passed the completeness check. That means the Integrity Council has confirmed we gave them enough evidence to assess Ontoly against its framework. The full assessment starts now and will run over the coming months.

Why this matters

Carbon markets lost trust through credits that promised more than they delivered. We built Ontoly to implement a high-quality carbon credit certification framework for buildings.

Every Building Emissions Reduction Unit (BERU) we certify comes from a single retrofit project. We measure the result from that building's own utility bills, before and after. An independent verifier checks the work. Only then do we issue a credit.

What it means for buyers

Full assessment is a step toward full CCP approval. If Ontoly is approved as CCP-Eligible, buyers will be able to point to an external assurance threshold when they choose BERUs. Until then, every credit is still traced to a specific building, measured from metered data and independently verified.

If you own or manage buildings, BERUs with a CCP label would give buyers one additional assurance metric totrust the emissions reductions your retrofits generate.

What happens next

The Integrity Council will review our Building Emissions Reduction Standard (BERS), our governance and our registry in the coming months under the ‘full assessment’. We expect questions along the way and will answer them in full. We will share updates here as the assessment moves forward.

Projects keep moving in the meantime.

A word from our founder

“Buildings are about 37% ofglobal emissions. They deserve carbon credits built for them, and a platform that makes it easy to reach buyers across the carbon market,” said Ashley Sarauer, Founder and CEO of Ontoly. “We only claim what the data can prove. Full assessment is one more step we have taken to prove our quality to the market. It gives every buyer and building owner we work with a reason to trust what we offer.”

About Ontoly

We prove climate impact one building at a time, turning real, metered emissions reductions into certified carbon credits and connecting building owners with buyers worldwide to fund the shift to sustainable buildings.

Ontoly is based in Squamish, British Columbia, and works with building owners and buyers across North America. Ontoly is expanding globally in late 2027 to early 2028.
